If you could meet one person today - that person can be dead or alive at this point in time - who would it be and why?

Of course I realize that this question is far from innovative. Browsing the Web AFTER I posted this question to you guys I found this interesting thread of people discussing the question http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/69285

Anth wants to meet his future self.

There is something very Freudian about that. I hope you are not a Catholic Priest; ha-ha, now that that would be funny. The last person I would want to meet is me.

I would like to meet King Henry the 8th in a good mood and while still young.

I would like to meet J.R.R. Tolkien and have a good chat of languages and mythology.
Or perhaps a sing-a-long with Väinämöinen.

My Grandfather. He died when I was only 7, and I'd love to have an adult eye-to-eye conversation with him, about many things.

This is all bloody interesting, wished I had made this into a thesis or essay but wouldn't have anywhere to submit it to Dancing THANKS - keep sending more ideas. It would be fun to read why you want to meet a certain person, too. Although a large chunk of your comments are self-explanatory...
Personally, I would like to meet Oscar Wilde, Grigory Rasputin (to ask him what all these sex and cult allegations were about) and the fiancee´ I lost when we were both only 22. There, how's that for self-reflection?!Speak to the hand

peter says tongue in cheek:

Anth dear boy. Yes very freudian. Your self would still be you. Anyway there is no future universe that can be visited, or do you have proof...ha. We don't want two of you now do we.

I would like to meet God and have a vantage point to see how it all turns out. To me it is dreary when I acknowledge that nothing of who I am in this life will be remembered by any living person in less than one hundred years; so, yes heaven gives me a sense of purpose in my life. I imagine the picture of human life, as it truly has been. I would love to see the end and how it will come about. Some people say 12-20-2012 will be the end of the world. Exactly what those prophecies are I can't say with any authority but, the astronomical alignments that haven't happened in 13,000 years are fascinating when I consider them. I would like to see it with a better view than my finite one.

I think I'd like to meet myself when I was 16 and tell me all those things I wish I knew then. Nah, then I wouldn't have married whats-his-name and had those wonderful kids.
Then I think I'd like to meet my father's father. I hardly remember him and although I know some things about his life, I'd like to know more: about how it was leaving England, what it was like starting up in Canada, losing his first wife (my dad's mum) struggling with 3 sons...
I would not have access to this sort of information any other way.

In meeting god, you become him. You will not remain innocent in front of such magnificent control and influence that could you could attain.

Emily Pankhurst, to thank her for her crusade for womens rights. Then to apologise for the women that don't use the rights she fought for.

actually it's a true story: the criminal was Odilo Globocnik and part of his treasure was hidden in lake Toplitz in Austria. Legend goes that some of his stashes were discovered after the war by OSS men who got the maps from some ucrainian guards who helped him to hide the gold. As for what he could carry with him and left here, there is a story about one man who saw them hiding the gold here and later recovered it. Now the man owns a restaurant and became wealthy in a very short time and suspiciously. Legend? who knows, but I keep looking and digging!

I would like to chat with Boethius, Da Vinci, King Arthur, David Niven, the Emperor Claudius, St.Augustine, Wm. Shakespeare, Agamemnon, John Donne and Hapshetsut, in no particular order. I think a TARDIS might come in handy.
I couldn't pick one without offending the others ( except perhaps St. Augustine, who would understand ).
