Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead.

I don't think her actual aspirations are important, because they were hers alone. Her quote, I think, is simply saying that we all have our own aspirations that we can see; we may never reach them, but they are like a beacon guiding us forward. Its a little like the ideal self that people aspire to....they may never become that ideal self, but that image is what guides them to become at least a little of that ideal self.
