Hello there, here is the context.

Quote:
Pres. Obama: Why would a man who's famous
and makes tons of money use that to try and have sex with lots of different women?
And these rich celebrities have perfectly good wives at home!
Why would they even think of sex with others?
Dammit. I want answers.

Committee member: We believe that it may be an outbreak of sex addiction, sir.

Pres. Obama: Sex a woohoo?

Committee member: It's a new phenomena we don't completely understand yet.
But it seems to make people --Different.
Of course, we all know the normal healthy
male thinks only of sex occasionally and has no desire for sex with multiple partners. -unquote(South Park, episode 1401 Sexual healing)

I thought that the "only" should be put before "occasionally" like "thinks of sex only occasionally" because the speaker wanted to make clear that it's "occasionally" not "all the time".

Then I thought it might make no difference to native speakers where to put "only".
Is that right?

You're correct in your grammatical assessment. Expecting cartoon characters (however ironic may be the show) to exhibit strictly grmmatical English, however, is going to lead to deep disapointment!

Dammit! There I was, thinking of something completely different for a moment and then, WANG, it's sex again! Boo hoo!

Let me take the male perspective here, because I think the position of 'only' makes a difference to me:

1. .. only the normal healthy male (tnmh) ...
---> those that are not normal and/or healthy may never / constantly think of sex;

2. tnhm only thinks of sex occasionally
---> to me has the meaning intended

3. tnhm thinks only of sex occasionally ...
---> at times this (fictitious) human being of the male persuasion thinks of nothing but sex;

4. tnmh thinks of sex only occasionally ...
---> similar to 2.

Of course intonation and emphasis can make a difference, too.

I'll go and get some coffee now and try to think of something else again. Yeah, right.

Only thinks, but this does not lead to any further action... Whistle

This is what half of the population think men do

This is what the other half of the population think they do

(I remember once, I think it was in the summer 1978, when I was near to collide with a concrete truck, it totally slipped out of my mind for few seconds ;-)
