The world will become like the times of Fuxi and Shennong. The people will be able to drive away disasters and misfortune and gain the ability to live long lives.

Shouldn't it be "misfortunes" instead?

Thanks.

Not necessarily. If you think misfortune in general, it doesn't need to be pluralised. In this sentence it's your choice, how you think about it.

I agree with JJ: "misfortune" is fine as it is, but "misfortunes" would not be wrong.

In the sentence, "misfortune", i.e., bad luck in general, is used as an uncountable noun, and so can't be pluralized. ("A misfortune", an example of bad luck, is a countable noun and can be pluralized.) However, the sentence uses "disasters"--examples of bad events--as a plural countable noun. I would say that, in the sentence you're asking about, the words "misfortune" and "disaster" should both be treated as uncountable or both be treated as countable

Surely it was only one double-post?
