Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Askaban Harry has left his home and now stranded in a dark alleyway. Harry has been collapsed down on a low wall. 1 ) he is sitting on a low wall. Quote:He bent over his trunk again, but almost immediately stood up once more, his hand clenched on his wand. He had sensed it rather than heard it: someone or something was standing in the narrow gap between the garage and the fence behind him. Harry squinted at the black alleyway. This has got me. I don't know how to picture that area, I've never been to London. *Gap between fence and garage?? *Then squinting at the alleyway?? *Instead of garage??

The fence marks the edge of someone's property. The garage is a building. If there is a gap between them, that can form an alley depending on how wide that gap is and where it goes to.
You squint when you are trying to see something more clearly. He is trying to see what is in the dark alley.

The building on the right is the garage, here there is another building rather than a fence but there is a small gap between them. Harry is standing in that gap. He is peering down trying to see what is at the far end.

He held it (his wand) high over his head, and the pebble -dashed walls of number two suddenly sparkled, the garage door gleamed, and between them, harry saw quite distinctly. Between walls and gate? I can't picture it with your pic, I'm afraid.

Penz you have a building on the left and a building on the right in the picture. Between them is a narrow gap that is quite dark with hints of green. The object, thing or person Harry saw ( Harry not harry it’s his name) is in a similar narrow gap between them, that is the alley. This is a wider alley in London. This in Manchester. Alley a long narrow passageway between or behind buildings, but not a proper road.
