Hi,
I'm wondering whether "am" or "was" should be used in the following:
I am/was the first person that arrived at school this morning.
I'd appreciate your help.

When you arrive there, you ARE the first person to arrive.
When some others come, you can say you WERE the first person who arrived.

_______________ In your sentence, the use of "was" is correct if it is now past the morning hours. The use of "am" is correct if it is still morning at the time of speaking. Of course, you expect some more persons/students etc to also come later than you.
