Hi,

Is "about" optional in the following sentence? Would there be any difference if it were omitted?

Joanne told Sam (about) her motivation.

I'd appreciate your help.

Yes, there is a difference.

Joanne told Sam (about) her motivation.
Joanne tells Sam the things that caused her to be motivated; the things that led up to her motivation.

Omitting "about" would convey the idea that she speaks directly, telling him her motivation, not about the things that caused her to be motivated.

I'd appreciate your help.
