Hi,


Is #1 below ambiguous as far as the placement of "not" is concerned?

1. Do you think you could not tell anyone what happened?

cf.
2. Do you think you could, like, not tell anyone what happened?
3. Do you think you could not, like, tell anyone what happened?

I'd appreciate your help.

No, it's clear.

He impossibility would be "couldn't".
And anyway that doesn't make sense as a request.

This is the negative action "not tell anyone".
That is why 2 is OK but 3 is unnatural - you would pause (and saying 'like' is just a pause out loud) before the phrase, not part-way through it.
