Using Commas with Parenthetical Information

Parenthetical information is not considered critical to the meaning of the sentence as a whole—if we removed it completely, the sentence would still make as much sense as before. Parenthetical elements can function as introductory or closing elements, but they can also appear anywhere in a sentence. What type of punctuation marks are used for parenthetical information?
When nonessential information is added parenthetically to a sentence, it is usually separated from the main sentence by commas or other punctuation. In fact there are three types of punctuation that can separate parenthetical expressions: commas , ......., round brackets (.......)

Use a comma to set off parenthetical elements, as in "The Founders Bridge, which spans the Connecticut River, is falling down." By "parenthetical element," we mean a part of a sentence that can be removed without changing the essential meaning of that sentence.

Separated from the rest of the sentence by commas (one or two depending on the location within the sentence).
