Eugène Delacroix is a French painter born on April 26, 1798 in Charenton-Saint-Maurice and died on August 13, 1863 in Paris .

In the French painting of the XIX th century , it is regarded as the main representative of Romanticism , whose force is the extent of his career. At forty, his reputation was sufficiently established to allow him to receive large orders from the State. He paints on canvas and decorates the walls and ceilings of public monuments. He also leaves engravings and lithographs, several articles written for journals and a Journal published shortly after his death and several times republished. Noticed at the Salon in 1824, in the following years he produced works inspired by historical or literary anecdotes as well as contemporary events (Liberty guiding the people ) or a trip to the Maghreb ( Women of Algiers in their apartment ).
