Section 320 of the Penal Code of the Bahamas provided that there will be a reduction from murder to manslaughter if any of the following matters of extenuation are proved on his behalf, namely:
1. that he was deprived of the power of self-control by such extreme provocation given by the other person as is mentioned in section 321;
2. that he was deprived of the peace of mind by copy editors.

The matter of extenuation came up before the school board
members , in closed session , as the controversial student
suspension seemed over-done by some and insufficient by others
within the school district.
