Chester Burton "Chet" Atkins, Mister Guitar (1924)

Atkins got his first guitar by making a trade with his brother, and it was arguably the best deal he ever made. Although he struggled with shyness and suffered from severe asthma—he had to sleep sitting up and often fell asleep still holding his guitar—he became an accomplished guitarist and went on to release several hit records, develop a signature line of guitars, and help create country music's "Nashville sound." What did "Mr. Guitar," as he came to be known, trade to get that first guitar? More...

'Mr. Guitar' Chet Atkins RIP...
Thank you Daemon for the reminder of a 'Legend'...

I'm a music freak...I love Gospel, Country, Jazz and Latin music.
You stated:
"Chet's recordings of "Malagueña" inspired a new generation of Flamenco guitarists; the classical guitar selections included on almost all his albums were, for many American artists working in the field today, the first classical guitar they ever heard. He recorded smooth jazz guitar still played on American airwaves today."

My mom was a Flamenco Dancer in the 40's...Chet's recording of "Malagueña" has always been a very favorite of mine....

Thank you again,
