Amanita muscaria is poisonous.

I am of the opinion that people who created any connection of this mushroom to Santa Claus must have had been drunk, or under influence of something unhealthy.

Otherwise, why making a link between Santa Claus who gives children happiness and poisonous mushroom?
Why not replace in popular culture dangerous mushroom with other, for example, chantarelle, or even better, champignon?

There are many people who know only one name, that is, mushroom.
But in this case it is worth to distinguish between Amanita muscaria and champignon.
Especially in the context of Santa Claus and children.

Synonyms for champignon

(Agaricus bisporus): button mushroom, cremini, crimini, cultivated mushroom, portobello mushroom, table mushroom

When mature, it is known as portobello mushroom, often shortened to just portobello (also spelled portabello or portabella. Smaller sized portobello mushrooms may be called portobellini or portabellini.
I can imgaine making a link between children waiting for Santa Claus and portobellini.

I can't imagine making a link between children waiting for Santa Claus and Amnita muscaria.
