You are what you eat — but if you want to get literal about it, you are mostly what you drink. So, how much of that should be water? About 60 percent of the average adult human body is made of water, according to a National Institutes of Health report ... More...

How Much Water Do You Really Need To Drink?

"The problem with this rule, researchers say, is that drinking water by the glass is not the only way that humans hydrate. Yes, it's true that guzzling H2O is an inexpensive and calorie-free way to whet your whistle, but the "8 x 8" rule crucially overlooks two big sources of daily water consumption."

More than that is the fact that the human's process to reuse water inside the body is recently discovered. This fact leads to another frontier of humans ability to survive under extreme conditions in terms of water supply.
Nonetheless, the article cites the extraneous physical activity as an important accountable factor for humans dehydration.
Many what I've been researching in surviving manuals and sports handbooks is that humans lose 60 to 70 percent of body water in breathing, depending on the kind of activity or the environment one person is being.
So that, as far as I concern, the rule of 8x8 ounces of water on a daily basis is a golden rule for hydration due to the fact that we cannot be truly aware of the amount of water we are losing over the day by looking or sensing only our transpiration. It would lead us to error on cold days when we sweat much less but we breathing much more profound and lose liters of water by this means.
