Thank you, Drag0nspeaker and Marek Guman! As far as I know, it is colloquial African-American variant. I don't have any additional information about the context.

Hello!

What does G mean in the following excerpt?

Tiger was close with Alicia and thought John should have married her by now. Back in the G when they used to kick it together real strong, John thought he would too. But she went ham on him all the time, and she wasn’t all the way right in the head.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello everyone,

What does hold mean in the following sentence? It is a medical direction.

Hold if systolic blood pressure less than X.

Does it mean to continue using the drug or to stop using it?

Thank you all for your illuminating answers. Such an error in the newspaper I read was not surprising, but the large number of Google search results was strange. The Internet is not a very reliable source, but your answers were reassuring.

Hello,

I came across the following sentence in a newspaper article:

What are the importance of...

Importance is singular, so the verb should be is, not are. But a search on Google yielded 143,000,000 results. Is there something I have missed about English grammar? Why is the use of "are" correct in the above sentence?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Dear all,

I am looking for coursebooks for upper-intermediate/advanced university students majoring in English language. Someone has recommended Developing Composition Skills by Mary K. Ruetten, but I would like to know your ideas.

Thank you in advance for your help.
