No Salvation Army. Far fewer Soup Kitchens in inner cities and no one promoting 'Love Thy Neighbour'. Personally I think that the Salvation Army is the only 100% genuine Christian organisation. If the world was run by the Salvo's it would be full on in compassion and empathy for all mankind, irrespective of race, colour or creed, (albeit a bit boring with no alcohol, or the odd bet on the gee gees). Their churches are plain, as are their uniforms, they do not waste resources, unlike most other mainstream religions that deem the palatial palaces/churches, extravagant robes/costumes, golden urns and paraphernalia necessary in order to pay homage/worship God.
We also have an alternative to organised religion. There are an untold number of humanitarians and humanitarian organisations in this world that worship no God but who contribute to a multitude of charitable causes. Many of these organisations also run soup kitchens, hostels for the homeless, medical facilities and numerous other necessary services. Not recognizing the contribution of these people is to be in denial.
Of course you are right Ray, on most counts, but you must know that there are many independent churches (an untold number if you like), who meet in small, very plain Halls or Meeting Rooms and who support a multitude of charities. Unlike those who support athiest movements (and I am not pointing a finger anywhere), they don't boast about it. Ditto your closing sentence.
