The "Oscars" are statuettes that are awarded to the most talented performers in American motion pictures.

Last year, most of the nominees were people of the current majority ethnic group. Many people protested and even threatened to boycott the ceremony.

This year, all of the nominees are people of the majority ethnic group.

Some people are outraged.

There are two points of view regarding this situation.

No.1

The "Oscars" should be given to the most talented performers.
A person's ethnicity should not be a consideration.
It would be patronizing to award an "Oscar" just to make any particular group feel good about themselves.

No. 2

The United States is a diverse nation.
The current majority ethnic group will lose its majority by the middle of this century.
It is important that the American motion picture industry recognize this growing diversity.

(The motion picture industry has pledged to change the nominating procedure. It is adding younger people and people of different ethnicities to the committee that selects the nominees.)
