You can only offend me if you mean something to me.

I think anyone who has an opinion, and voices it, will offend someone.

Nothing is so great an example of bad manners as flattery. If you flatter all the company, you please none; If you flatter only one or two, you offend the rest.

The offense has reached me, but not my soul… There's something in it.

It never works. At least in the Republic of Georgia, where I live. To make an offender stop pestering you, you (Plan A) have first to abuse him verbally and (in case it does not work) you (Plan B) have to give him a couple of punches and/or kicks. Verbal attack is sufficient in 90% of cases. Most of offenders from remaining 10% retreat and run away when you begin to carry out Plan B (before you actually engage them).
So, this is rather pugilistic, than spiritual issue, imo. :)

A very sound policy. With verbal offense, I think of the old saw "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me".

Apparently, when you treat those people the same way they treat you, they'll get offended. Not talking

No matter how badly people treat you, just never let yourself go down to their level.

......A noble person who kept his ego in check was Abraham Lincoln, who said, "We should be too big to take offense and too noble to give it", Lincoln understood that resentment had to be released He knew what it meant to rise his soul to a higher level, a level Rene Descartes had in mind when he said, "Whenever anyone has offended me, I try to raise my soul so high that the offense cannot reach it." Divine Love, a love that never fails. is an energy that we should harmonize with when cannot by ourselves lift our souls so high that the offense cannot reach us. But once again it is bot the natural thing to do.

"I think; therefore I am." I think offenses talk more about who the offenders are, and their offenses fly back to them like a boomerang.
