The word exists in French (ultramarin, ultramarine) but has a different meaning. It is used to characterize people from the Caribbean or from other islands still belonging to France.

Ultramarine is such a beautiful color made from lapis lazuli. It was used first in China and India. Such a beautiful color and prized by Renaissance artist for illuminated sacred texts.
