The Sport of Geocaching Begins (2000)

Geocaching is an outdoor treasure-hunting game in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) to hide and seek watertight containers filled with trinkets, hoards known as "geocaches" or simply "caches." The improved accuracy of GPS devices allowed the pastime to develop, since the specific locations of the small containers could finally be logged and shared. I guess this is treasure hunting...only this is more amiable and less "conceited" compared to the way the pirates used to do it. The pirates were not about trading or sharing. Their gold was theirs and if it meant taking the secret to the grave of where they had hid their treasure then so be it.

The one one I find most interesting is the message in a bottle, the is released to flow with the water flow at sea or in a river. Anyone who finds the bottle along its journey writes a message and sets the bottle on its journey. And it can travel all around the world like that.
