I have learnt that I am me, that I can do the things that, as one might put it, me can do, but I cannot do the things that me would like to do. Agatha Christie (1890-1976)

Only old age people have, really, learnt that.

Agatha,
You are so right because of your understanding of reality.

I find most of her remarks (quotes in tfd) to be rather mundane and unimpressive.

mundane?!? take a deep breath and think again...think about what you REALLY want...think about your locus of control. be honest with yourself. this is the voice of maturity speaking. her voice, your voice. LISTEN!

Further, think about what "me" means. think about ego...(personal self versus spiritual, larger self). don't dismiss this so quickly. but maybe i'm wrong...well, what the heck if i am wrong! at least i'm digging!!!!

Even if by "me" she means ego, what you can do and what you would like to do are often the same thing. I find this quote confusing and ultimately unenlightening. It could have some genius undertone of a psychological truth but then again I doubt that.

Wouldn't it have been simpler to write, "I've come to realize that some things are beyond my abilities"? I mean, she WAS a professional writer. Surely clarity wasn't beyond her. [Sorry, a bit cranky tonight.]
