Litvinenko's Autopsy Called "Most Dangerous" Ever

The 2006 autopsy of murdered ex-KGB agent Alexander Litvinenko was likely the most dangerous ever conducted, a pathologist told a UK inquiry this week. Litvinenko died of multiple organ failure after drinking tea dosed with polonium-210—a highly radioactive isotope that may have been undetectable post-mortem if police had not taken the unusual move of having him tested by atomic scientists just before he died. During the autopsy, pathologists wore protective suits with hoods fed with filtered air to avoid exposure to radiation. More...

it is admirable to have atopsy at atomic level otherwise if you see most of the developing country you hardly have a good autopsy room .I salute to the advancement and curosity with advancement.

An early victim of "chemical" warfare: Victor Yuschenko

Mr Yushchenko, a pro-European politician who wanted to bring his country out of Russia's shadow, fell seriously ill on September 6, 2004 as he was competing in presidential elections against a pro-Moscow candidate, Viktor Yanukovich, now prime minister [recently forced to abdicate].

After months of tests in an Austrian clinic, it was determined that he had ingested a massive amount of the poison dioxin.

The Telegraph - Sept. 11, 2007

Chloracne is a rare skin condition caused by certain toxic chemicals including the dioxins. It develops a few months after swallowing, inhaling or touching the responsible agent.

The name 'chloracne' is misleading, because it is not related to acne. Rather than overactive sebaceous glands, as occurs in acne, the glands are destroyed and replaced by epidermal cysts.

Most cases of chloracne are due to occupational exposure but it can also arise after accidental environmental poisoning. One hundred and ninety-three cases of chloracne resulted from an industrial accident in Seveso, Italy in 1976. Deliberate dioxin poisoning is blamed for Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko's changed appearance in September 2004.

Questions remain
There are some questions that even the public inquiry now underway in Britain may never be able to answer.

Why, for instance was polonium-210 chosen to kill Litvinenko? It would have been a costly and complicated task to produce the quantity used in the murder. A bullet would have been much cheaper.

Perhaps the killers hoped it would not have been detected by British investigators. Or perhaps they wanted to send a message, pointing the police towards an executioner they knew would never be held to account?

But the biggest question of all is whether the killing was ordered by the state, or was the work of rogue elements within it.

Perhaps only President Putin, himself a former KGB agent, has the answer to that.

That type of death must really hurt and shouldn't be wished upon anyone, except those Republicans in the US congress that are bent on destroying our democracy.
