Marilyn Monroe married baseball star Joe DiMaggio after a courtship that captivated America. Their marriage lasted just nine months, collapsing amid reports of DiMaggio's growing possessiveness. Monroe then wed playwright Arthur Miller, but after divorcing him in 1961, she became close again with DiMaggio. When Monroe was found dead in August 1962, it was DiMaggio who made the funeral arrangements. For the next 20 years, what did DiMaggio have delivered regularly to Monroe's crypt? More...

"They stumbled into their lives
In a vague way became man and wife
One got the other they deserved one another
They settled in a brand new town
With people from the same background
Kept themselves busy
Long hours left them dizzy
Now when he's in, she's out."

...and then she broke his heart.

Beyond that, her overwhelming popularity still confuses me to this day.

Sounds bad but it is life. You miss it when you lost it.

Keep it this way. You are in real trouble when you do figure her out.

Wow. Of course I know a bit about her but this is the first time I have read how totally screwed up her childhood was - it's amazing she could function at all!
And if you just take the first part of the bio, without knowing all the baggage, an impressive acting career.
I always admired her a bit for making the most of what she had, but now I think I admire her an awful lot more for facing life. She may have chosen some men who were bad for her, but at least she had the guts to keep trying.

There could never be enough love in this world to fill the hole of trauma in her heart. Poor, rich woman.

Even President John F. Kennedy could not do it but that's another mystery story.
