Ronald DeFeo, Jr., Murders Family in Amityville, New York (1974)

After the DeFeo family was discovered murdered in their beds, Ronald DeFeo, Jr.—the family's only surviving member—was placed under police protection. DeFeo initially told investigators that he believed the murders were a mob hit, but he soon confessed and was convicted of murdering his parents and four siblings. A number of controversies surround the case, especially regarding the possible involvement of DeFeo's sister Dawn. What best-selling novel and series of films did these events inspire? More...

The murders inspired the move The Amityville Horror but wasn't the old 'haunted house built on an ancient Native American burial ground' also utilised by Stephen King on more than one occasion?.
Quote:
The claim that Ronald DeFeo, Jr. was influenced to commit the murders by spirits from a Native American burial ground on the site of 112 Ocean Avenue has been rejected by local historians and Native American leaders, who argue that there is insufficient evidence to support the claim that the burial ground existed.[15]

AMITYVILLE:
Horror or Hoax
?

Could such things really happen? Could ghosts destroy a family the way that evil spirits did George and Kathy Lutz? Could a ghost force someone to kill, as demonic entities caused Ronald DeFeo to murder his entire family?

And most terrifying of all -- could the American public be so easily deceived into believing the events chronicled in the book were actually real? The answer to that question is a resounding "yes", as is proven by the fact that many people still believe in the veracity of "The Amityville Horror", one of the greatest paranormal hoaxes of all time!

Make every post as if it was the first one in the thread.
