Patriot Day

Patriot Day in the United States commemorates the anniversary of the terrorist attacks that took place on September 11, 2001, in New York City, Washington, DC, and in the skies above Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Each year, the president proclaims a day of national observance in memory of the more than 2,700 people who lost their lives in the attacks. Throughout the nation, flags are flown at half-staff, and a moment of silence is observed at 8:46 AM, Eastern time, the exact moment the first plane flew into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Many remembered the day of Pearl Harbor attack. What of it now? We are chummy with Japan now. The way it goes, 911 will be forgotten by most after 2 to 3 generations, and who knows whom we will be friends with?

Both of you are so right. Who ever would of thought we would have such strong trade agreements with China? And who could ever forget the wars with self-righteous zealots spread like a wild fire around the globe? Mostly, the battles were fought in their neighborhood countries; now it is a world at war.

I just left the 9/11 thread....it is brutal. Overwhelm is possible today.

This is the first time I'm ever hearing of "Patriot Day".

Make every post as if it was the first one in the thread.

So what should a true "Patriot" do on this day and for the remainder of their lives? Remember the novel, "The Ugly American"? This should be a day that WE ALL attempt to change the image of the U.S. of A, not just lament in sorrow what occurred, but ask ourselves; why did this happen and what were the causes that lead to so very many peoples around the world to hate America and Americans?

This is a day when every one who is against using innocent life for the cause of spreading terror will remember. And at least if not the name of the organization - whose members chose to use for their criminal purpose the most contemptuous method of staging a war - their ideology and what they are fighting for.

Yet people from 92 different countries died in the 9/11 attacks, so the real question here is, "why do terrorists destroy innocent lives?"
