According to tradition, its founder, Marino—a Christian stonecutter from Dalmatia—took refuge on Mount Titano in the Apennines to escape religious persecution. There's a few funny little countries like this: Andorra, Monaco & Vatican city come to mind. The Basques on the French/Spanish border want their own homeland too.
