Sooner or later invasive virulent ideas lead to the use of military power. Though quick spread of idea don't tell about its aggressive nature...

An invasion of armies is nothing but brute force ,killing, burning, taking over countries and the list goes on it might seem powerfull and disastrous but it can't last forever and can be countered with brute force.Ideas on the other hand are weapons that can only be fought by solid arguments, once an idea is born arguments to counter it start appearing, some ideas get stronger thank to it and others get less convenient because of it. An idea is so powerful that it can live forever and history has shown us various examples , there are million of quotes that stayed immortal til this day and that are still discussed .Some ideas may seem stupid and even illogical at first sight but once they are studied or when their time comes they can lead to revolutions and big changes. And thus we conclude to the fact that Ideas can either lead to things an invasion just can't accomplish or can lead to these invasions themselve.

What if it's an idea of a false accusation?
Certainly this doesn't prove that the idea is a better choice than military forces,
since both are just as deadly..

I don't agree. An idea can be stated and spread, in a democratic peaceful way. When the idea is needed by the people, it will be spread and accepted by the people.
However, when we talk military, we don't talk philosophy or science or diplomacy any more. We talk violence then. The primate act of fighting.

A free spirit is a spirit which undergoes changes, which welcomes or at least considers new ideas, otherwise it isn't a spirit, it would be a numb brain. Come on, dear forum members, or is the world of today perfect, then?

That is why governments use propaganda before sending armies.

By the way, the original quotation is the following: On résiste à l'invasion des armées; on ne résiste pas à l'invasion des idées.

Note the poetry of the original one.

From:[b]
HISTOIRE D'UM CRIME -( The Chute - Chapter X)
By Victor Hugo

THE HISTORY OF A CRIME- (Conclusion - CHapter X)
THE TESTIMONY OF AN EYE-WITNESS
By VICTOR HUGO
Translated by T.H. JOYCE and ARTHUR LOCKER.

Literal translations:
"One resists the invasion of armies; one does not resist the invasion of ideas."
"One withstands the invasion of armies; one does not withstand the invasion of ideas."

in context:

"The star possesses no anger; the dawn bears no malice. Light is satisfied in being light. Light is everything; the human race has no other love. France knows herself beloved because she is good, and the greatest of all powers is to be loved. The French revolution is for all the world. It is a battle perpetually waged for Right, and perpetually gained for Truth. Right is the innermost part of man; Truth is the innermost part of God. What can be done against a revolution which has so much right on its side? Nothing. To love it. That is what the nations do. France offers herself, the world accepts her. The whole phenomenon lies in these few words. An invasion of armies can be resisted; an invasion of ideas cannot be resisted. The glory of barbarians is to be conquered by humanity; the glory of savages is to be conquered by civilization; the glory of darkness is to be conquered by the torch. This is why France is desired and assented to by all. This is why, having no hatred, she has no fear; this is why she is fraternal and maternal; this is why it is impossible to lessen her, impossible to humiliate her, impossible to irritate her; this is why, after so many ordeals, after so many catastrophes, after so many disasters, after so many calamities, after so many falls, incorruptible and invulnerable she holds out her hand to all the peoples from above.

Ideas often come by collusion of government, media, and business who seek to foist them upon the public, creating the illusion of broad acceptance for the purpose of perception and value manipulation.

"Now" is the eternal present.

Paraphrased with two of today's "Match Up" words: "Overstep" and "Disembark"

An overstepped invasion of armies will be resisted, but not a stumbling, gently disembarked idea falling on fertile ground.
