Goliath Beetles

Named after the biblical giant slain by David, goliath beetles are among the largest insects on Earth. Native to Africa, they are found mostly in tropical forests, where they feed primarily on tree sap and fruit. They measure from 2 to 4.3 inches (50–110 mm) long as adults and can reach weights of up 3.5 ounces (100 grams) in the larval stage, though adults are only about half this weight. I've never seen one in person nor do I care to. I don't like being around regular sized bugs, let alone ones so large that they're named after biblical giants. No thanks.

There was a wonderful segment on Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood on an artists whose career is focused on the colors and shapes of all the various beetles throughout the world. It was really well done to the point that if I had access and the money I'd buy one of his works. It includes what is called the Titan beetle.
