He acted in numerous Finnish films and recorded more than 300 songs before his death in 1979, the result of a brain injury caused by a slip-and-fall accident. His death might have been averted had medical officials correctly identified the symptoms of a fatal cerebral hemorrhage instead of dismissing them as indicators of what? More...

On 25 September 1979 Tapio Rautavaara slipped and fell at the Tikkurila Swimming Center in Vantaa and hit his head on the floor. He was taken to a nearby health center, where his injuries were not taken seriously, as staff believed him to be drunk. His head was bandaged and he was sent home. The next night, he died as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage at his home in Oulunkylä, Helsinki. He was buried in Malmi, Helsinki.

For reason unknown to me I liked this article. I had never heard of Tapio Rautavaara, but now stand corrected. Many extarordinary men are products of single mothers; their sons, no doubt, the core and meaning of the women's life. I wondered why the article did not include Tapio's love life. I know I never seen a Finnish film nor heard Finnish music. Time to go to YOUTUBE and fill that gap.

Wow. He was a man's man. Quite accomplished. It's a shame he was misdiagnosed.
