Jet Stream Shift Could Influence Weather Patterns

Weather patterns around the globe appear to be changing, and in North America and Northern Europe the jet stream may at least be partly to blame. The jet stream—a high-speed, meandering wind current—over these continents has become wavier in recent decades, resulting in longer periods of the same weather. Meteorologists speculate that warmer temperatures in the Arctic could be to blame, as the jet stream is fueled in part by the temperature differential between the Arctic and middle latitudes. More...

Perhaps the jet stream is being affected by world pollution.

Here in New England it has been non-stop cold and snow, both of which appeals to me. I like the snow and I like the cold but then summer comes and it is way too hot for my taste.
After reading that excellent article on the Jet Stream where meteorologists speculate that warmer temperatures in the Arctic could be to blame, as the jet stream is fueled in part by the temperature differential between the Arctic and middle latitudes, I wonder how many of the Forum readers thought 'climate change/global warming. I think the only country that has raised a debate over what is plain to the naked eye--global warming is a hoax foisted on us by Al Gore-- is the good ole USA.

Perhaps the changes in the "Jet Stream" are simply "normal" variation. Variation that is well within the two standard deviations of the mean. The weather has continuous variability. As one weatherman said, if you have a very wet record setting winter, you can be assured that there will be another one that sets the record sometime in the future. Often time we draw conclusions based on insufficient data.
