Crash of Air Inter Flight 148 (1992)

Air Inter Flight 148's trip from Lyon to Strasbourg, France, on January 20, 1992, was relatively uneventful until it came time to land. It was then that things went horribly wrong. The autopilot was mistakenly left in the wrong mode, accelerating the descent. The crew was unaware of the approaching danger because the plane was not equipped with ground proximity warning systems. All but nine of the 96 people on board were killed in the resultant crash. What else may have contributed to the crash? More...

What else might have contributed to the crash?

Pilots were encouraged to do speed of up to 350 knots, 100 knots above normal speed. Also inputing of wrong data into the computer, 33 deg instead of 3.3 degrees.

This article has just highlighted one of the disadvantages of air transportation. Few survival after any accident which is highly discouraging.

A similar accident occurred on a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris in 2009, a good friend of mine was suppose to be on it with his girl friend and her family. They broke up several weeks earlier and he never got on the plane. Fate has a way of working in our lives.

Air France Flight 447 (abbreviated AF447) was a scheduled commercial flight from Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris, France. On 1 June 2009, the Airbus A330-203 airliner serving the flight crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, resulting in the deaths of all 216 passengers and 12 aircrew.[2] The accident was the deadliest in the history of Air France.[3][4] It was also the Airbus A330's second and deadliest fatal accident, and its first while in commercial passenger service.[5]
