Interesting how the mind works when confronting a new, unfamiliar word. Sometimes our minds replace the unfamiliar word with another more familiar word. For instance, my mind converted the unfamiliar word "inexpugnable" to what it thought was a more familiar word, "inexpungeable" by transposing the "g" and "n." "Inexpungeable," of course, is an adjective meaning "incapable of being expunged," right? As it turns out there is no such word. But my mind seized on the familiar word, "expunge," and applied the rules of grammar to arrive at a plausible related word. Something like dyslexia was going on, because in my mind's eye I actually saw the word, "inexpungeable." Another process akin to folk etymology which replaces unfamiliar word forms with familiar ones was also in play. If any neuroscientists who study the psychology of learning happen to read this post (a long shot), perhaps they will comment.

I did the same, MTC.
