Aurangzeb (1618)Aurangzeb ruled as emperor of the Mughal Empire of India from 1658 to 1707. He is commonly considered the last of the great Mughal emperors, as well as one of the most controversial. He was an austere, conservative Muslim who strictly adhered to a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam, banning music, dance, and most forms of art. He oppressed non-Muslims and was engaged in near-constant warfare during his reign. His empire was fatally weakened by the revolts of what groups? More...

I was just saying the other day, "Where have all the great Mughal emperors gone? What has this world come to?" And then I remembered, "Whoa, I'm not Muslim...better keep quiet here."

It's no surprise that Aurangzeb ruled as he did. He befriended betrayal, just as his father and grandfather did heretofore. Rarely, do people choose honest work, over plunder. I believe it was Frederic Bastiat who said, "Now since man is naturally inclined to avoid pain - and since labor is pain in itself - it follows that men will resort to plunder whenever plunder is easier than work."
This story, in parallel with Shakespeare's, Julius Caesar, are ripe with examples of the horrendous acts men will undergo to appease their appetite for power and greed.
As I've said before, Power in the hands of the wrong people is lethal!
God help us...

Why would he oppress non Muslims?
"Supposin' I was to go to work and learn how to... to read writin'. Well, how'd I know that the feller that... that wrote the writin' was a writin' the writin' right? See it could be that he wrote the writin' all wrong. Here I'd be just a readin' wrong writin', don't ya see? You probably been doin' it your whole life, just a readin' wrong writin' and not even knowin‘ it." Festus
