I know there are differences between the two. Can someone specify how the two are different and give some examples?

Hi 26letters,
Welcome aboard the French forums.
Your question is quite vast.
An example that comes readily to my mind in French French a car is a voiture, in Canadian French it is called a char or an auto.
You can have many more examples and details on this page (thanks wikipedia, once again) Quebec French
À bientôt
