The Lindbergh Operation

The first so-called transatlantic operation, the Lindbergh Operation was a telesurgical procedure performed in September 2001 by a team of French surgeons located in New York on a patient in Strasbourg, France. The minimally invasive procedure to remove the patient's gallbladder was performed by a surgical robot that received instructions from a doctor via a high-speed fiber optic service. I'm not sure how enthusiastic I would be if I was offered the chance to be the first patient to undergo such a procedure. But then again, I guess I'm never very enthused about surgical procedures to begin with.

What if the internet went down mid-operation? I don't even want to think about it.

I hadn't even considered that. Has there ever been more dependence on an ISP to provide steady, reliable service?
