"Playing hard to get" works well in the theater.

I notice that the spelling of the word theater in this quotation is distinctly American.

@Richard: Yes. As we are based in the US, our convention is to use American English (AE) spelling in our Daily Content. In this quote, the word "endeavor" also uses the AE spelling. (Brits would spell it endeavour.)

I spelled the word "theatre" on my first draft because the quotation is by Dickens, but later changed to the American spelling, "theater" when I noticed the American spelling in the quotation. If I had it to do over I would not have submitted to this small act of orthographic cowardice. After all, the quotation was by Dickens, and "theatre" looks a lot better spelled the English way. Twenty lashes with a wet noodle!
