Mutant Cockroaches Evolve Bait Avoidance Mechanism

Cockroaches have survived and thrived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years, but the hardy pests do—or at least did—have one fatal flaw: a sweet tooth. For years, humans have exploited this weakness in their efforts to fight cockroach infestations, baiting the pests with glucose-coated insecticide. Unfortunately, it seems that at least some German cockroaches have evolved a protective aversion to glucose, perceiving it as bitter rather than sweet. More...
