Many Underestimate Marijuana Health Risks

A third of respondents in a new British survey said they believe smoking marijuana is harmless. The survey of 1,000 adults also found that nearly 90 percent think that smoking tobacco cigarettes is more harmful than smoking marijuana cigarettes, despite the fact that the lung cancer risk is 20 times higher for smoking marijuana. Researchers said that the increased risk may be due to the fact that marijuana smokers inhale more deeply and for longer amounts of time than tobacco smokers. Experts said the data suggest that more needs to be done to educate people about the health effects of smoking marijuana. More...

The lung cancer risk is based on flawed studies which administered marijuana smoke in extremely unrealistic quantities to test animals. I know of no deaths from lung cancer attributable to marijuana smoke. Tobacco smoke is a known killer but tobacco remains legal. Marijuana is not linked to cancer in real world studies but remains illegal.

Please work to understand this poorly written law and then work to change it.

Thank you.

I second the point made above:

As a former occasional user of pot:

The sheer difference in quantity of smoke introduced into the lungs of a pot smoker as compared to a cigarette smoker calls into question the veracity of any conclusions drawn:

From my memory, I recall a few hits off a joint, or from a bong was more than sufficient to give you a recreational buzz...

As contrasted with a person smoking one or even two packs of cigarettes all day long.

It begs the question...are they serious? The quintissential "ivory tower" type.

"Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless, and do no wrong". (Knight's Oath, Kingdom of Heaven)
