US Obesity Problem Bigger than Previously ThoughtThe
obesity problem in the US may be more extensive than previously thought. Researchers say that the
body mass index (BMI) scale, which uses a ratio of height to weight to determine whether a person is
obese, allows a large percentage of obese people to slip through the cracks. Of 1,393 people who had both their BMI and
body fat percentage measured, 39% were not classified as obese by BMI standards but fell into the obese category for body fat.
