Most of us know Mark Twain as author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, 1876 and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, 1885. But Mark Twain wrote a lot of astonishing things.
My latest discovery was his novel Before Adam - an amazing fantasy story set in a very early prehistory when evolution had produced several types of man-like beings - various steps of nature's production on the way to real man. The story is really amazing - and should have a special place in fantasy literature.

I discovered Before Adam as a title of gutenberg.org and got it on my e-reader (free download).

Mark Twain was also a talented humorist. I once read a text by him about the German language saying that German is a language from the Stone-Age and as it is too difficult to learn for normal people it should be abolished.
It's a pity I can't find this text any more on the web. Perhaps someone can help.

He also let drop some remarks about the use of books - saying they are a wonderful means to stabilize a wobbly table. Another passage I can't find anymore.

So sorry, I got totally confused. 'Before Adam' is not by Mark Twain, but by Jack London.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
