February 16, 2012|From the CNN Wire Staff The United Nations General Assembly passed Thursday by an overwhelming margin a nonbinding resolution endorsing the Arab League plan for the Syrian president to step down. The vote was 137 in favor and 12 against, with 17 abstentions. "Today, the U.N. General Assembly sent a clear message to the people of Syria: the world is with you," said U.S. Ambassador Susan E. Rice in a statement. "Bashar al-Assad has never been more isolated. A rapid transition to democracy in Syria has garnered the resounding support of the international community. Change must now come." http://www.alarabiya.net/articles/2011/09/19/167556.htmlhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gwle0-pP7r4&feature=related

Am afraid that Mr. Assad is perfectly comfortable with his status as an international pariah. I think the only way he leaves office is feet first.

Leaders of this ilk are not likely to abdicate their rule without substantial pressure from outside their country. Look at the examples of the leaders of Iran, Libya, and others that have fallen in the recent past. Once this type of man is in power and is enjoying all the fruits of being where the buck stops, it goes to their heads. It is so true that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
HWNN1961 is right on; Mr. Assad will leave only in the feet first mode!
My prayers are with the people of Syria; they deserve much better than this. I pray that they can achieve it.
