242 Japanese planes bombed Darwin 70 years ago today.

US Peary was sunk along with many civilian vessels, almost 300 people died.

The archival records tell us the reason behind the air attack, was to enable the Japanese Army to take Temor,

without interference from US and Australian Forces.

Oddly enough, you'll never see this made into a Hollywood movie. 'No Americans were harmed in the making of this history'.

they actually were excaelis, sailors when the Peary sunk.

Have you seen the movie 'Australia' with Nicole Kidman & Hugh Jackman?, there was a good portrayal in it.

I wonder if this thread has anything to do with "Sea Shepherd"?

I stand corrected, Tov, after some further research. My apologies to my American friends for some unwonted cynicism. Mea culpa.

This thread should be in history forum including this:

I don't disrespect anybody who lost their lives involved in wars, especially unwillingly involved.

May I ask, assuming you are Japanese, how you feel about your ancestors?

almostfreebird, your comments are 'off topic' and crass.

To post the links that you did post was in poor taste.Sick

I will refrain from posting a link to the "Burma railway' which resulted in the horrific deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians and POWs.

I had personal connections with some of the "survivors", and, like them I try and move on believing that what is done, is done. That in 'forgiveness', we can find healing.Think

You have just destroyed part of that with your petty and spiteful reference.
I think that you need to do some "soul searching" yourself.Speak to the hand

I'm not religous, I'm an agnostic.

I don't know, maybe they were apes, or seeds scattered by some alien or one of God's creation, I don't know.

Almostfreebird,
"I don't know" seems a little unbelievable, but I don't know how old you are, or how much you genuinely know about Japanese history during the first half of the 20th C.
If you show disrespect here on this thread, maybe innocently, then it is an indication that you should acquaint yourself with the facts.
I am not going to give a lesson, here, but I will mention one relevant thing. I spent time teaching English in a city near to Nanjing in China. I visited the War Memorial in Nanjing. There is a lot of animosity towards Japanese in that part of China, and not just among older people. And frankly, it is not surprising.
Please do think before posting on this delicate subject.

Great!

In the line above I find a great love of yours to the countrymen bombed in a war.

But, it'll be hard enough if you try to respect every person bombed in a war where you had to call them terrorists for only your peace of mind.
