When I was a kid, we were sooo poor:

We were "po" since we couldn't afford the other "o" and the "r".

In a similar vein:

When I was akid, we were sooo poor:

We couldn't afford noodles....you get the idea.

"Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless, and do no wrong". (Knight's Oath, Kingdom of Heaven)
