Doomsday Clock: Just Five Minutes to Midnight

The Doomsday Clock, a symbol of humankind's proximity to catastrophic destruction, has been moved one minute closer to midnight. The clock, maintained by the board of directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists since 1947, was moved to five minutes to midnight because of inadequate progress on nuclear disarmament and climate change. It was a step back from 2010, when scientists, optimistic that world leaders would address global threats, turned the clock back a minute to six minutes to midnight. More...
