Question I got in a forum on another site about Hebrew (Old Testament). GenesisAnyone here who is familiar with this ancient language? Thanks in advance for your help. Found yet 'salt' = מֶלַח The site I used contains another meaning of 'block' that does not fit the context well.

Block of salt was new to me. I've seen 'pillar of salt' used, and Finnish version uses ' suolapatsas'. "But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt." וַתַּבֵּט אִשְׁתּוֹ, מֵאַחֲרָיו; וַתְּהִי, נְצִיב מֶלַח. (From http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0.htm

If you use an interlinear translation you'll be able to match each word. Here's one: http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinear/OTpdf/gen19.pdf. I've seen them better laid out too. Edit: Watch out though, I do believe––IIRC––that there are different kinds of Hebrew, like there are different kinds of Greek (Attic Greek, New Testament Greek, modern Greek).

As per my knowledge Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh) and the Christian Old Testament.
