True. Absolutely true.

The saying is from Swift's Polite Conversation, Dialogue II. Swift was satirizing the boring conversational style of the gentry. Here are a few other bon mots from the same source:

Dialogue 2
He was a bold man that first ate an oyster.
That's as well said, as if I had said it myself.
Fingers were made before forks, and hands before knives.
She has more goodness in her little finger, than he has in his whole body.
Lord, I wonder what fool it was that first invented kissing!
The best doctors in the world are Doctor Diet, Doctor Quiet, and Doctor Merryman.
May you live all the days of your life.
I always love to begin a journey on Sundays, because I shall have the prayers of the church to preserve all that travel by land, or water.
I thought you and he were hand-in-glove.

Heed the advice of the physicians: everything in moderation, let your words be few, but freely drink in the elixir of life whereby a joyful heart makes a body healthy.

To make oneself truly merry is not found in sources outside ones self frequently pursued in gluttonous living or in riotousness company but true joy is cultivated from the inside, where no one can came in and steal.

Alternatively, there's always Dr. Tarr & Professor Fether. But my all-time favourite physician is Dr. Jazz.
