Sometimes you have to wonder how astronauts get anything done, they'd have to keep pulling me away from the view ports. Earth | Time Lapse View from Space, Fly Over | NASA, ISSClick on the four arrows at the bottom right of the video to make it full screen, and depending on the transfer rate, you may want to go off and do things in other tabs before doing that, then come back to play it through, without the annoying buffering pauses.

My granddaughter showed me this "cool" site. Of course, she expects me to take her up there to see for herself.

Are the lights we see on the planet the lights from cities?

Yes Marissa, that and lightening, although most of the lightening would be cloud to cloud so technically not "on" the planet. The International Space Station is maintained in a nearly circular orbit with a minimum mean altitude of 278 km (173 mi) and a maximum of 460 km (286 mi), in the centre of the Thermosphere. It travels at an average speed of 27,724 kilometres (17,227 mi) per hour, and completes 15.7 orbits per day.(NASA/Wikipedia).

Ah, the lights didn't strike me as lightening; I didn't think of that. It must mean that the space station isn't too far up in space if it can pick up the lights when photographing the earth. thank you for the link and added information.
