Facebook's 4.74 Degrees of SeparationThe old adage that strangers are connected by " six degrees of separation" may need to be updated, suggests a recent study of 721 million active Facebook users. This modern version of Stanley Milgram's so-called small world experiment found that the average number of acquaintances separating any two Facebook users is currently only 4.74. And what happens when the degree of separation converges to zero? Would Facebook explode like a dying star that had consumed all its fuel, eaten itself up like an astral cannibal?
