Not in my opinion.

The Free Dictionary has:

as long as
conj.
1. During the time that: I'll stay as long as you need me.
2. Since: As long as you've offered, I accept.
3. On the condition that: I will cooperate as long as I am notified on time.

I think the "since" definition of "as long as" also works in this sentence.

E doesn't make sense.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

the second phrase here contains the verb 'must'. That suggests it is a condition. IF this is to happen, this MUST happen.

if you want to stay out of jail, you must be honest

if we are to drive growth, the economy must be clean.

the 'as long as' has a conseqence

as long as you are honest, you will stay out of jail.

as long as we make a clean economy, we will be able to drive growth.

so you cannot use as long as in this instance

Delivering the Next Economy

By Dr. Josef Ackermann | Tuesday, January 04, 2011

The next economy must be cleaner and more energy-efficient if we want to drive further global growth and, at the same time, keep our climate intact. This transformation will be nothing less than a new industrial revolution — a revolution that will change the way we live, argues Deutsche Bank's Josef Ackermann.

I am wondering if this assignment (@Volcano... or any of you who help out here) is intended to "re-write" the original...
All of Volcano's posts lately can be easily googled... what am I missing?

Reference Volcano's post: "...we are to drive global growth and, at the same time, keep our climate intact, the next economy must be cleaner and more energyefficient" (sic).

The second part of the sentence not only refers to the future, but also gives a condition of "must", thus choices "Even though", "Unless", and "Consequently" do not fit.

The term "If" implies a follow-up term 'then' either written or understood. When you read the sentence with the implied 'then', the sentence does not work because we cannot force the outcome of the future. Remember "must"

My conclusion is that the term "As long as" fits better than the others. It implies that if we do our work correctly and earnestly, it will have a positive impact on the future.

As someone else said on another post - " For goodness sake" the answer is A. If.

There are many excellent helpers here who always give excellent answers. They have all said the same thing here.

Every man has a right to his opinion, but no man has a right to be wrong in his facts. Bernard M. Baruch 1870-1965
