I never read much much beyond school assignments in high school. I read the Hobbit in college just for fun. It kick-started my "precious" love of reading.

I bought the Finnish translation when it was published 1973. After that then I waited for the LOTR to be translated.
In high school I wrote a long essay of Tolkien's literary style, comparing these two books; that was before The Silmarillion was published.

Silmarillion was the first I read first in English, before the translation game out.

The Hobbit I still tend to read once in a two or three years. And enjoy every time.

The three most read children books of mine: Little Prince, The Hobbit, and Mestaritontun seikkailut.
(thinking another time, there are dozens of them ;-)
